Dec 21: Solstice Bells

Today marks the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and the longest 'night' and shortest 'day' of the year.

The night skies are not as dark as they once were. Light pollution is a real issue. It is also known as sky glow, and is the focus of the SkyGlow project, which is developed by Harun Mehmedinovic and Gavin Heffernan.

The darkness of the night sky is measured using the Bortle Scale: a nine point scale.
