The Slate mines of Llanberis recently gained World Heritage Status. Liverpool waterfront was not so fortunate.

It was said that this area roofed the world. Look up on your everyday walks and you will see slate, although it is not as common as it used to be.

When I was growing up, slate was the roofing material of choice in most houses. Our house near Rotherham had a slate roof.
