Aug 23: Closed for good

Part of the mythology of the USA is the diner: the cafe often family run or decades old serving coffee with refills, pancakes, eggs over easy and other meals to travellers and locals alike, from early breakfasts to late night coffees on rainy nights. Regulars visit and eat in such places every day.

Sadly COVID-19 has proved to be the final straw for many establishments that have already survived previous problems and times of stress, including the great depression, or the rerouting of an old road that was previously the major highway (think of Radiator Springs in 'Cars')

This New York Times piece looks at the loss of these places. An elegy for lost diners.
