Cycling is an everyday activity for many: some for fun, others to commute to work. For some it's a lifestyle, and more than a way of getting round.
This time of year is one where I sit on the settee for hours at a time watching each stage live as it unfolds across the day, and watching the unfolding landscape of France as 'La Grande Boucle' makes its circuit - alternately clockwise then anti-clockwise around the country. This is three weeks of the year set aside for watching as much cycling as possible, soaking up the scenery and geology, seeing the small villages and towns flash by, and pottering away on writing projects at a time of year when things generally begin to wind down as we move towards the end of another school year - all part of the rhythms associated with teaching as a career.
