May 30: Music and the coast

This is a very interesting sounding book, exploring music and landscape and melancholy....

I remember hearing foghorns at Skegness in the 1970s when staying in the caravan where we used to spend a couple of weeks during the summer, and also further along the Lincolnshire coast

I also have an image of me on Skye at the Neist Point foghorn which is a real classic.

The use of GPS has negated the need for foghorns as ships can 'see' each other, and dangerous rocks on their digital charts and monitors mostly....

A little part of the everyday experience for mariners and lighthouse keepers which has disappeared, although the light still shines out for those who need it...
