May 29: Embracing the Ordinary

Michael Foley has written an excellent book exploring the ordinary aspects of our daily lives and encouraging us to embrace them. I picked up a bargain copy in the WH Smith sale recently, having previously read a copy from the library.

The book looks at a number of areas and examples of how we should consider the minutiae of life as being more important than we imagine.
There are references to quite a few writers who explore the everyday such as Joyce and Proust. the philosopher Henri Lefebvre and other explorers of urban spaces get a mention too of course.
