A Maersk video exploring the impact of shipping containers on our everyday lives. These are very much in the news this week because of the unfortunate events in the Suez Canal. Since it opened, this has allowed large container ships to avoid a journey around the Horn of Africa, and South Africa, which adds around 11 days to the journey to, or from, Europe and also costs a great deal more in fuel costs than the toll to pass through the Suez Canal, which is particularly important for the Egyptian economy.
Everyday, we encounter items which have spent some time in those grey metal boxes.
