Jan 21: Everyday geographies in print #1

There is, of course, an academic area of study on everyday geographies. It can also be called ethno geography. I shall be digging into this literature as we continue through the year, to add a little academic 'rigour' to my explorations of the quotidian.

This article by former GA President Fran Martin, which can be accessed from Academia.Edu is a classic in Primary geography ITE courses according to Susan Pike, and actually one of the first items that students get when they start the course. There are lots of examples featured in the article of examples of what could be called 'Everyday geography', all of which will probably appear on this blog at some point, even without me checking to see what they all are.  It's also a reminder to Secondary specialists that there is a lot they can learn from Primary colleagues.

This is a reprint of an article originally published in 'Primary Geography' dating back to 2006 and is well worth taking a look at and reading. It can be downloaded as a free PDF.

The article also references the Passion4Geography which I was proud to be part of, along with Dan Raven Ellison, David Rayner and others, many from the Staffordshire Learning Network (SLN) community.

A subscription to Primary Geography is well worth adding to your GA Membership.
