Jan 13: Tree-mendous

See that tree over there... Just take a moment to appreciate it. For most of us, we get the chance to see a tree every day, but don't always take them for granted. There are times when we notice trees a little more perhaps: when a cherry tree goes into full blossom, or at sunset in winter when the bare branches claw up at the sky. Here's Dan Raven Ellison, a friend of ours walking through London looking up at the tree canopy. There are plans to grow a Northern Forest, stretching across the country... There's a lot of land to cover there, and the map gives the impression that York will become a settlement in a forest clearing for example... The Woodland Trust is getting some funding for this initiative. For the last few years there have been major protests in the city of Sheffield, where trees are being removed as part of a contract with a large firm, ostensibly to improve the footpaths and roads, but the disruption of felling is causing more problems with barriers

Dec 8: D3 - give our course a go and let us have feedback

We have been working on the teacher training course that links with the D3 ERASMUS course. This is now ready for evaluation. If you had the time to take a look at the link above and take a look at some of the modules that would be appreciated. For context: The objectives of the D3 project are to: 1. Promote the use digital technologies and open data tools in learning and teaching. 2. Increase the capacity of learning and teaching to integrate democratic engagement considerations into educational plans and strategies. 3. Establish suitable styles of learning to access and integrate open data into schools and 4. Improve educational stakeholders’ response to the need for data and information literacy in schools and teacher training. Until now, educational stakeholders have been extremely timid in applying the use of open data and digital technologies in education, despite the need to support young people in their demographic engagement. Met Office Stamp Issue

Stamps are everyday items, although their growing cost means that people are using fewer and using other means of communication instead. A new stamp issue with a geographical theme is always something that I can get behind. In recent years, I've bought stamps linked with the Windrush Generation, UK Wildlife, National Parks and Polar explorers.
