Jan 14: The last straw.... and pointless plastics

Every day, we inevitably encounter plastic. Is it possible to live a plastic free life?

Some of this we will consume just the once before it is placed in the recycling (hopefully).
Others may last a few weeks or months (the tube containing our toothpaste perhaps).
Plastic is usually made from oil, and is remarkably persistent within the environment.

China has drastically reduced on the amount of plastic that it imports from other countries, as part of a bid to improve its environment. This Guardian article (from the Follow the Things twitter feed) suggestsed that plastic may become a real problem for many local authorities as it becomes impossible to dispose of effectively

National Geographic have used Straw Wars as their headline for this piece.

Surfers against Sewage are also behind a drive to encourage schools to ditch the plastic and become plastic free... Something to aim for perhaps...
